[Letter to the Senate Judiciary Committee]

Chair Wilborn and Members of the Senate Judiciary Committee

Summary: "The Kansas Department of Health and Environment appreciates the opportunity to respond to testimony presented to the committee on May 19, 2020 by Joy Eakins of Cornerstone Data. ... The agency strives to provide the public, legislature, and the Kelly administration with accurate and timely data to make informed decisions regarding COVID-19. The hospital metric on the website shows hospitalizations by admission date for the last two weeks. ... However...we have not been able to fulfill data requests from outside researchers at this time. KDHE and the Governor's Office utilized many tools and data sources in making decisions about the Kansas re-open plan. Included in these data sources are a number of different models, including the IHME model. However, we also used our own internal data to project peaks in hospitalizations and deaths. Our internal modeling was most similar to the IHME model, but no one model, or data source was used to make decisions."
